popular front activists protest against verdict on bhopal oil tragedy
BANGALORE: Activists of the Popular Front of India (PFI) staged a protest here on Saturday against the verdict on the Bhopal gas tragedy.
Seeking action against Warren Anderson, the then Chief Executive Officer of Union Carbide, the activists termed the two-year jail term for eight persons a “slap on the face of the people of Bhopal”.
Mohammed Tahir, president of Popular Front of India, Bangalore unit, said: “The insensitivity of the system towards the common masses is reflected through this judgment. They (judiciary) made a mockery of people’s sufferings and losses.” “This protest is not only against the verdict on the Bhopal gas tragedy, but also against such atrocities on the common man,” Mr. Tahir said.
