Political violence is common in Kerala: Father William Martis

Mangalore: “The hand chopping off incident of Professor Joseph, who was alleged for blasphemous writing about Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), was a common political issue. Such incidents are often held in Kerala as the state is well known for political violence” said Father William Martis, Udupi district president of NCHRO, who was expressing his views in an Activist Get Together and Ifthar Program, conducted by Popular Front of India, Dakshin Kannada district, at Jammiatul Falah Community Development Hall, on Tuesday.

“As Elyas Muhammad Thumbe said earlier beheading, chopping and killing people brutally is very common in Kerala politics. When I had visited Kerala long years ago, there I observed some high school boys keeping knives with them as a good reason for cruelty in the state” he said, referring to the Popular Front of India Karnataka state president, Elyas Muhammad Thumbe’s speech.

“I really thank Popular Front for conducting such a program” he said.

Earlier Elyas Muhammad Thumbe said that the chopping off incident was a local issue in the Kerala. Popular Front of India had given press release condemning the issue as soon it took place and had no role in the matter adding that Muslims in some parts of the Kerala was disappointed with anti Islam act of some Christian organization including banning burkha in some Christian colleges and distributing provocative pamphlets with anti Islamic ideology and the incident was only out come of this.

He added that CPM which was losing the faith of the people in the country used this incident for its political gain, recalling that CPM activist had been punished for killing a teacher brutally in front of his students; their face had filled with blood stains consequently.

Gopal. B. Shetty, a well known social activist in Udupi, thanked Popular Front of India for conducting such a program for social activists as it helps to clear their doubts about the organization.

He also commended Popular Front for conducting grand Independence Day Celebration in Udupi, despite a conspiracy of the state government to prevent it.

Pattabhirama Somayaji, Advocate Satheesh Holeppady, P.Mohan and other social activists were present at the program.

Razaq kemmara gave a lecture on Ramzan. Aslam Hasan, a state committee member of the Popular Front coordinated the program.
