Protest demands CBI enquiry in bomb blast cases

Madurai city in Tamil Nadu witnessed more than fifteen low intensity bomb blasts in the past three years. The police under the pretext of investigation tortured more than 350 innocent Muslim youth in the city. Even the women were not spared.

Advocate Syed Abdul Kather, district president of SDPI’s Advocates wing, filed a writ petition in the Madurai bench of Madras High Court demanding CBI investigation in these bomb blast cases. The petitioner alleges that the real culprits in these cases were never arrested. The counsel for the petitioner, Peter Ramesh Kumar and Mohamed Abbas, submitted two communiqués sent by former District SP V. Balakrishnan to his seniors. The letters sent in March and August last year to the DGP and the ADGP, state that the informers and head constable Vijaya Perumal of the Intelligence wing of aiding ultras in planting improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Meanwhile, ‘Federation of all Islamic Organizations, Mohalla Jamaaths and Ulemas’ was formed in Madurai and the Federation has also demanded a CBI enquiry in these cases. The federation met the District Collector on April 7 and submitted a memorandum. A protest demonstration was organized by the federation on April 12.

The police had earlier denied permission for the demonstration. But the people stood firm in their decision and reached the spot at scheduled time. The police later gave the permission at the final minute. More than 500 people, including women, participated in the protest demonstration and voiced for a CBI enquiry.
