Chairman calls for broad based alliance to defend democracy and diversity

In a statement issued on the eve of Popular Front Day, the chairman of the organisation K M Shareef has called for broad based alliance building against rising incidents of intolerance in the country and authoritarian moves of the Central Government.
The Sangh Parivar under government patronage is trying to create an atmosphere of terror all over India by misnomering every political dissent as a Pakistan sponsored anti-national activity. The arrests of Jawarlal Nehru University Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar and Delhi University teacher and human rights activist Professor S A R Geelani alleging involvement in anti-national activity are latest manifestations of Hindutva arrogance.
K M Shareef has condemned the arrests of both Kanhaiya Kumar and S A R Geelani and demanded their immediate release.
He said that not only the religious minorities who adhere to ‘foreign religions’ and dalits who are outcasts in the ‘Brahminical Social Order’, but all political parties that disagree with RSS ideology are now brought under the category of ‘enemy of the nation’. Section 124-A of IPC and draconian provisions of UAPA which were widely used against Muslims, are now being misused in order to curtail political agitations and opposition to official policies.
K M Shareef informed that on 17 February which commemorates the declaration of Popular Front of India in the year 2007 at Empower India Conference held in Bangalore, Unity Marches and Public Gatherings will be held in different states from Delhi to Tamil Nadu and from Rajasthan to Manipur.
Popular Front chairman in his Foundation Day message promised that the organisation will continue to be in the forefront in defending the people’s rights to democracy, diversity and equal justice.
