Sub: Allegations appeared in a section of media against Popular Front quoting government agencies.
I write this letter on behalf of Popular Front of India, a neo-social movement, striving for the downtrodden masses and minorities throughout the nation. I would like to bring your kind notice a few unfortunate recent media reports, particularly targeting our organization in connection with the rumour spreading against the Assamese people. I deny any such involvement of Popular Front in this regard and we suspect these reports are nothing but, yet another round of malicious propaganda by the vested interest groups and communal sections against our organisation. I further clarify that Popular Front stands for the right of all citizens to reside, study or work anywhere in India, which is guaranteed by the Constitution of India. All our official statements and issued after the oustbreak of unfortunate ethnic clashes in Assam are testimonies to this fact.
The news as reported by some online papers and channels particularly in Kerala is that ‘cyber investigation agencies’ have submitted reports to Home Ministry linking Popular Front to the rumour spreading incidents. Some other reports mentioned referred to ‘central intelligence agencies’. A few media specifically stated that the “National Cyber Investigation Agency” has submitted the reports. All together it seems that the names of government agencies and the Home Ministry itself is misused in an attempt to terrorise people and tarnish the image of our organisation. We want to know whether such a report was submitted alleging the involvement of Popular Front. We are not sure about the existence of a particular agency called “National Cyber Investigation Agency” under the Union Home Ministry. If at all any kind of false reports are submitted against us, we once again clarify that we are an open organisation never involving in such covert activities. Please note that we always work within the limits of our constitution and other laws of the land. I sincerely request you to ensure that anybody in the intelligence, security and investigation agencies are not involved in spreading defamatory, malicious and communally motivated misinformation about minorities and their organisations including Popular Front. Also I request you to order a thorough enquiry to find out those who were spreading rumours to terrorise North-East citizens studying or working in different of the country.
I would like point out that false propaganda against our organization has been continuing and the media reports in this regard have been claiming IB and other intelligence sources. When such kind of baseless news items are repeated, we have to suspect that at least some elements in the intelligence and security agencies are working against religious minorities and their organisations as agents of communal and fascist outfits whose only motive is to spread communal hatred and prevent the empowerment and development of minorities. Hence, I request you take necessary steps to cleanse the intelligence and security apparatus by identifying and taking action against those elements who acts as tools of communal outfits.
In this context, I also request an appointment with you at your convenience to explain our position.
