Raw over fifth minister: Social justice denied for Muslims, alleges Popular Front Kerala

Saturday, April 7th, 2012
Kozhikkode: The controversy over the IUML demand for fifth ministerial berth for the party is nothing but the attempt to deny social justice for Muslims in the state, alleged Popular Front state secretariat. Those who oppose the demand of Muslim League for one more ministerial berth in the name of maintaining communal structure in the cabinet are denying the Muslims their right proportional to their demographic strength.
From the opposition leader V S Achuthananthan to BJP leader V Muraleedharan are speaking in same tone on the issue, secretariat opined.
It also asked the leaders of present UDF government and last LDF government to make it clear that if they could show justice to the community on the basis of its population. In the present cabinet upper casts from Hindu, Christian communities are given undue representation now itself. It is apart from the key posts like of Speaker, Chief whip, UDF convener and KPCC president.
In last LDF cabinet Muslims who are coming 27 percent of state population got only two ministers from their community. Nobody was there to raise voices against this blatant denial of social injustice. It’s strange to see VS Achuthananthan who is leader of CPM that is opposed to the community and identity politics opposing the fifth minister demand. It is nothing but the manifestation of his anti Muslims attitude which has come our earlier also. Popular Front also demanded VS and CPM to clarify on undue representation given to upper cast Hindus and Christian in their cabinet.
It is anti democratic to deny Muslims their due in the name of fifth minister issue for IUML. If there is any reservation for yielding its demand UDF should give a cabinet berth for a Muslim from Congress fold.
It is a dangerous trend from the part of KPCC to take side along with VS, BJP and NSS who are known for their anti Muslim rhetoric.
Popular Front is of the view that the communal structure would be maintained only if the cabinet berths were divided equally also among other backward classes like Ezhava, Dheevara, Nadar etc.
President karamana Ashraf Moulavi presided over the council meeting. T K Abdussamad and C P Muhammad Basheer also spoke.
