The arrested are V P Arundas, 28, Babu alias M K Kalesh, 34, of Thalassery and P M Arun Arun Kumar, Aruvangode, Thalassery. They were produced before the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court and were remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. NDF (earlier form of Popular Front of India) leader Muhammed Fasal was murdered on October 22, 2006 a day before Idul Fithr. CBI is of the opinion that CPM killed him after he had deserted the CPM and joined the NDF. He also attracted other CPM workers to his organization. The prosecution case is that an eight-member-gang had arrived in three bikes and attacked Fasal using fatal weapons. The former left government had tried to sabotage the case several times by transferring investigating officers and misusing government apparatus. Son after Fasal, an NDF activist was murdered even the then home minister Kodiyri Balakrishnan had tried to mislead the people and the police telling that it was RSS behind the killing. And it was the court that directed the CBI to investigate the case after realizing that the probe by local police was being scuttled by the government and CPM. Popular Front leaders said that with the arrest of three of their activists, CPM’s real face had become exposed.
