Ban on Freedom Parade: Popular Front Appeals in Kerala High Court

Monday, September 26th, 2011
Kochi: Popular Front of India Kerala state committee appealed in the Kerala High Court against it’s decision not to interfere in the steps taken by state police and district administration to ban Freedom Parade organised by the organisation on August 15 each year.
State general secretary P Abdul Hameed contended that the court took the decision not to interfere in the matter without hearing the version of the organisation. He also informed the court that it would like to conduct the Freedom Parade on January 26, the Republic Day, instead of August 15. The appeal is expected to be heard by the division bench of the court soon.
The Kerala High Court had decided not to interfere in the police ban on Freedom Parade in last August saying that it would not like to interfere in an executive decision. Even though Adv. Ram Kumar had contented that the matter included constitutional issues it refused to interfere.
