Custody murder at Ramanathapuram:PFI provides legal aid

An innocent youth was killed by the police personnel at S.P.Pattinam at Ramanathapuram during custody on October 14. Reports say that a local youth named Syed Mohamed (aged 23) was taken for enquiry by the local police over a petty issue. The youth was tortured and severely assaulted by the police in the police station. The innocent youth had died as a result of this assault.

The police in order to hide the facts framed a story. As per the police story, the youth attempted to attack the police in the police station with a knife. The police hence shot the youth to save their lives. The police also said that Sub Inspector Kalidass was injured in the melee. The youth received four bullet wounds in his body.

Sensing something unusual at the police station, the public gathered and demanded an explanation. But the police did not let the public into the station and sent the body for post mortem to the Government hospital. Those who saw the dead body clearly say that it’s a case of custody murder.

The public and members of the movements demonstrated the next day and demanded a fair enquiry into the incident. Members of Popular Front of India also participated in the demonstration. The legal wing of PFI is at Ramanathapuram and is providing the necessary legal aid to the victim’s family.
