Chennai: Popular Front stages protest against Sri Lankan Buddhist racists

The recent violence unleashed by the Buddhist racist group Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) against the Muslim community in Sri Lanka has so far claimed three lives. The Tamilnadu state unit of Popular Front of India today (June 19) staged a protest demonstration in Chennai in front of the Collector office. K.S.M. Syed Ibrahim, North Chennai State President of Popular Front of India welcomed the protestors.

A.S.Ismail, State President of Popular Front of India led the protest and condemned the inactiveness of the Sri Lankan Government. He stated that the Government and the police have not taken any action against the Buddhist racists and it is highly condemnable. The Buddhist racists and the Sri Lankan Government are now trying their hands at the Muslims, after the completion of the genocide against the Tamils. The Central Government and the Tamilnadu State Government should condemn the acts of the Sri Lankan Government and should severe the ties with the Rajapakse Government, he added.

It is to be noted that the United Nations Human Rights Commissioner Navaneetham Pillai has also condemned the attacks against Muslims in Sri Lanka and has warned that the riots may spread to other areas also.

Nagoor Meeran, South Chennai President of Popular Front of India delivered the vote of thanks. More than five hundred people participated in this protest and registered their protest against the ongoing racism in Sri Lanka.
