The leaders of various secular political parties and movements came together against the religious fanatics, whose activities are on the rise in Tamil Nadu. The seminar was arranged by Social Democratic Party of India and Viduthalai Chirutaigal at Chennai on March 4.
State General Secretary of SDPI B. Abdul Hameed welcomed the gathering. The inaugural speech was given by SDPI State President Shaik Mohamed Dehlan Baqavi. Thol. Thirumavalavan, former MP and leader of Viduthalai Chirutaigal party presented the presidential address.
State President of Popular Front of India Mohamed Ismail spoke about the attack on the religious places of worship. He pointed out various instances in which the Hindutuva elements have carried out attacks on the places of worship of the minorities. Viduthalai Rajendran, General Secretary of Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam spoke about the attack on the culture.
Mee.Tha.Pandian, President of Tamil Nadu Makkal Katchi spoke on the attack on the history and Thiru Murugan, President of May 17 Movement spoke on the assault on language and race.
G. Ramakrishnan (State Secretary, CPM), Peter Alphonse (Tamil Maanila Congress), Mallay Sathya (MDMK), Thiyagu (Tamil Desiya Viduthalai Iyakkam), R. Mutharasan (State Secretary, CPI), Fr. Esra Sargunam and Su.ba.Veerapandian also spoke on the occasion.
The leaders stressed the need for coming together to tackle the menace of religious fanatics. More than two thousand people participated in this program.
