PFI provides legal assistance in Muthupet

PFI provides legal assistance in Muthupet Tension has gripped the town of Muthupet of Tiruvarur district, yet again. The Hindutuva communal forces in the region are using the Vinayagar Chaturdhi procession to flame the communal tensions. This year too, on September 3, the communal forces created trouble by attacking the shops and residences in Muthupet. Its ironical that the shops of Hindu traders were also burnt by these Hindutuva communal forces. This clearly shows that such vested interest groups have no regards for the well being of the Hindus. The Vinayagar Chaturdhi is used as a political tool to serve their interests.

The police had made elaborate attempts to control untoward incidents. But while the attacks were carried out by these elements, the police forces remained mute spectators. A team comprising Popular Front of India district president Haja, state and district leaders of SDI visited the affected areas and also met the people who were affected by the incidents. The team later met the Tiruvarur Superintendent of Police and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits. Popular Front of India is also providing the required legal assistance for the affected people.

Inspite of the complaints given by the Muslim community, the police did not make any arrest initially. But later, as pressure mounted on the police department, around ten persons were arrested. But the public is of the opinion that the real culprits who managed and planned the assault are still not arrested. Popular Front of India has requested the members of the Muslim and Hindu communities to be vigilant against such communal forces who try to disturb the communal harmony in the area.
