Popular front General Secretary M Mohammed Ali Jinnah expressed shock over the tragic death of more than 100 people due to fireworks accident occurred in connection with a temple festival at Paravoor in Kollam district of Kerala.
He conveyed deep condolence to relatives of the dead and hoped that all injured persons will recover soon.
It is learnt that explosion was caused when the storehouse of explosive materials caught fire. In the impact of the explosion, the office building of the Travancore Devaswom Board near the storehouse was blown off.
There is a ban on fireworks at temples and these are held on the basis of temporary permits annually. It is reported the district authorities had rejected the application for permission to hold the fireworks display on April 9 and warned the temple management against breaking the ban order.
The General Secretary has requested all concerned in Kerala to ensure that such man made calamities are not repeated and appealed popular front carders to extent all possible help and consolation to the victims as well as to the families of those who had died.
