Students Meet – Report
It certainly is a welcome move that a group of enthusiastic youths have come forward with an agenda “students for social change”, when the future of the nation is in danger, opined Prof. Shamsul Islam from JNU Delhi. He was inaugurating the National Students’ Meet at the Town hall, conducted as part of the three day National Political Conference by Popular Front of India. Students should not behave like Sri Ram Sene or the Bajrang Dal; these Sangh Parivar outfits are just an association of a criminal gang. The duty of the youths is to save the democracy and secularism.
America is the greatest enemy of Democracy in the present day world. The US government with the help of their supporters and the biased media is propagating that they are the saviors of democracy in the world. Had they been the real saviors of democracy, then would they have massacred three hundred thousand innocent civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki even after winning the second world war? Would they have destroyed four million people in Vietnam war? Would they have burnt to death women and children in Iraq and Afghanistan? All these prove that America is the number one terrorist in the world. In India the BJP and RSS talk about saving democracy. What rights do they have to talk about democracy? It is their activist who assassinated Mahathma Gandhi. It is these organizations who massacred thousands of Sikhs, Muslims and Christians in communal riots. It is absurd that these Hindutwa terrorists who killed lakhs of Muslims in the streets of Hashimpura, Nelli, Bhagalpur and Gujarat through well planned riots, speak about democracy, he added.
Muslim terrorism is a fiction. Where or in which country have Muslims encountered the governments with terrorism? Imperialist America and the Hindutwa fascists are trying to affront the Muslims by unleashing false propaganda against Muslims, instead of giving them their rights that they are entitled to, Shamsul Islam continued.
They are continually engaged in the process of annihilating Muslims through threats and war. It is in this situation, the creative intervention from the student community supporting a social change is required. Shamsul Islam concluded.
A. Saeed, Vice Chairman of Popular Front presided over. Our country is rising in the field of development, the nation is competing with other countries in the areas of education, science and technology. India has made its presence felt in the space with the recent journey to the moon. India has become one of the nuclear powers in the world. We are the proud owners of a strong military power that is feared by any countries in Asia. The top billionaires of the world are in India. We follow the attractive ideology of democracy, socialism and secularism. What is the need of a social change here? It is in this context that we need to understand the bitter truth on the other side. Saeed pointed out.
It is the implementation of the capitalist interests that are practiced in the name of development. The agriculture sector of the country is at great peril. 1,82,000 farmers have till date committed suicide. The governments are moving forward with lop-sided development strategies without caring the problems of the common people.
Another scary thing is that the very basis of the Indian rule is being questioned today. International financial institutions have interfered in the country. Imperialism along with capitalism has tightened its stronghold on the country as well. The rulers are yielding to the interests of the upper class community even after 61 years of independence. Power is always for the upper-castes only. The highest number of poor and starving people is in India. Two hundred million Indians are starving. The ethnic and communal discrimination is gaining strength day by day. The development in the fields of education and culture are unable to eradicate the communal riots. The rulers are hand in hand with the communal forces. Their prime preys always are Muslims. Muslims are being attacked in the name of war against terrorism in collusion with the American-Israel nexus. This unholy nexus was created in 1992 by the then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao. It is after 1992, terrorist attacks become rampant in the country. Muslims are the representatives of the most neglected section today. Basic requirements such as water, electricity etc have become forbidden-fruits to the Muslim populated areas. Here is the relevance of social change. This will not happen automatically as a result of seminars and debates. We would be able to achieve these only through struggles. This is the duty of the students. The students should be in the forefront of this struggle till we achieve it. Added Saeed.
Anees Ahmed, the National Executive Member of Popular Front who presented the topic of the meet observed that, the global imperialistic forces and the hindutwa fascists have been exploiting the student community to safeguard their selfish interests. Sangh Parivar has been using the students to implement their hidden agenda. This hidden agenda was revealed in the anti-reservation strike and in the Gujarat pogrom. A new student power should rise to fight the human rights violations and the exploitation by the imperialists, Anees added. Imperialist America is in the process of planning to spread their fangs to more countries. Rich in India are getting more powerful. The industrialists have transformed education to a means to gather wealth. Higher education to the poor is becoming more unapproachable. Globalization and liberalization are leading the students to hardship. The leftist communists are not following honest policies. Unholy nexus between the ruling class and the monopolists results in denial of rights. The government that serves the colonial powers who were driven out of the country is playing a dangerous game that destabilizes the sovernity of the nation. While one Purohit was arrested for treason, thousand Purohits who serve RSS are still in the military. Aness Ahmed continued.
