National education day celebrated

Popular Front of India, Goa celebrated ‘National Educational Day’ on 11th November, 2013 at Gomant Vidya Niketan Hall, Margao – Goa. Welcoming the Guests on & off the dais, President of PFI, Goa remembered the first Education Minister of India, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and his valuable contribution in the field of Education. Then, He spoke about different social activities carried-out by PFI in Goa as he highlighted the annual ‘School Chalo Campaign’ run by Popular Front wherin PFI members survey the poor & slum areas, identify the needy students and help them further their studies. Speaking further, he added that Popular Front is helping 12 to 13 poor students in higher education with the able support of welwishers & donors.

World renowned Educationist, Mr. Mubarak Kapdi was the chief Guest of the Programme, who in detail explained about Maulana Azad’s life, freedom struggle, achievements, importance in political set-up and more importantly his role as a ‘Education Minister’ in Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru’s cabinet. He stressed upon the education for every Indian & said that, its a core for civilized Society to exist. He called upon the Parents to be a role model for their wards and a home as a university as he specifically pointed-out that a child first learns from his Parents & they have to be upright in every way possible. He spoke about Women s education in detail and said that Parents has to take utmost care in not making any discrimination between his male & female counterparts. He spoke about how communalism has destroyed secular fabric of the society & called upon the Students to be torch bearers of their Religion and remove the misconception from the minds of non-Muslims about Islam. He congratulated Popular Front for their efforts in felicitating meritorious students and working at grass root level for the education of downtrodden people in India.

Speaking on the occasion, Panch of Davorlim Panchayat and Guest of honor for the programme, Mr. Imran Mohammed said that the overall result of the academic year is excellent but, we are far below other top rankers at SSCE & HSSCE levels. He called upon the Students & Parents to take opportunity of different educational schemes launched by the Government & empower themselves with higher degrees. More than 200 hundred Meritorious Students were Felicitated on the occasion and name a few, Miss Jigni Pathan for being awarded Maulana Azad Minority fellowship for pursuing PHD in Cancer Biology, Dr, Tahura Haneef Kwaja for being selected as Goa Scholar 2012-2013 by Directorate of Higher Education, Govt. of Goa, Afreen Banu for securing 1st rank in M.Sc Zoology in Goa & Shaheen Basha for securing 2nd rank in M.Sc in Zoolog in Goa..
The Programme was compered by Mr. Muzaffar Shaikh & Mr. Kaleem Rikarty and the vote of thanks was proposed by Gen Secretary Mr. Shaikh Abdul Rauf.
