High level investigation needed about the US ship: Popular Front

Calicut: The Popular Front of India has called for a multi-agency investigation about the mysterious US arms ship M.V. Seaman Guard Ohio seized at Tuticorin by Indian Coast Guard on 11th October.

In a resolution the National Executive Council of the organization has observed that the refusal of the authorities to come out open before the public, adds to the suspicion that the government is under US pressure.

The vessel reportedly belongs to AdventFort a US company involved in arms trade. Many sophisticated assault rifles and over 5,000 rounds of ammunition were found in the vessel without proper documents. 10 sailors and 25 guard men along with 9 Indian nationals were arrested by Taminadu Police.

The ship was wandering suspiciously in the territorial waters of our country for many days unnoticed or ignored by the naval security forces which is a serious breach of national security. The incident also calls into question the credibility of our much acclaimed Coastal Security Scheme (CSS).

The resolution also invited attention to the fact that there are many institutions of strategic importance like Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant and Cryogenic Rocket Plant. There are many US companies involved in gunrunning and espionage.

The NEC called upon the government to appoint multi-agency investigation team to look in to the incident and take action against the people responsible for the breach of security and come out open before the people. The Council also asked the authorities not to buckle before the American pressure.
