SDPI demands emergency protection service at Bengre

Mangalore: In the wake of non availability of any emergency protection service at Bengre Beach, Mangalore Social Democratic Party of India, Bengre committee has demanded D.K district administration to provide the beach with some protection service during accident or use coastal protection force for the purpose.
The party, in memorandum submitted to district commissioner, stated that most of the people who depend on sea-based jobs are poor and the region is infamous for casualties. If any accident occurs in the sea, only habitual swimmers should rush in to the sea, in their own interest, to protect lives of the people in the absence of any emergency protection services.
“90% of the people who make sea-based job are poor and belonging to minority and backward communities, in the region. These sea-based workers do not have any advanced protection services.”
The memorandum also stated the recent death of one Ismail (20), son of Bengre resident Hameed when he went to sea for fishing. He had tried hard to reach the shore when his boat sank in the sea. If there was availability of any protection service he would have saved his life.
