People’s Movement against UAPA: State committee formed in Tamil Nadu

The People’s Movement against UAPA was formed in January at a meeting held at the national capital. The movement will educate the people on the evils of this draconian act and will also meet various leaders of the political parties. A number of programs have been planned as part of the campaign that will continue till next month.

The Tamil nadu committee of the movement was formed to take over the campaign across the state. Leading human right activist Prof. Marx (PUCL) was elected as the president of the Tamil nadu committee. Advocate M.N.Shajahan (Vice-president), senior advocate S. Sathiaychandran (Secretary), Advocate Rajnikanth (Joint Secretary) and A. Khalid Mohamed of Popular Front of India (Organizer) were elected as the office bearers. A state committee was also formed with lawyers and representatives from various social organizations.

The state committee has also decided to work along with the like minded organizations and human right activists. The committee has also decided to meet political leaders of the State and the means for a successful campaign was also discussed. As part of the campaign, a get together of human right activists has been planned in Chennai today (February 8).

Earlier a press meet was conducted by the People’s Movement against UAPA. E. Abubacker (national Vice President of the Movement), Kamal Faruki (National organizer of the Movement), K.M.Sheriff (National Chairman, Popular Front of India), Senior Advocate Sathyachandran (State Secretary of the Movement), A.S.Ismail (State President, Popular Front of India) and A. Khalid Mohamed (Organizer, Tamilnadu committee) attended the press meet.
