Protest against remarks by BJP leader

Chennai: BJP’s State Vice President H.Raja had spewed venom against the minorities and Tamil social leaders in a speech. This invited wide spread condemnation from different sections of the community. Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has already lodged a complaint against Raja with the city police commissioner. A protest demonstration was held on January 31 at Chennai demanding police action against the BJP leader. SDPI State Secretary T.Ratinam led the demonstration. State Secretary Ameer Hamza, Central Chennai District President Nazim, South Chennai District President Jamal, May 17 movement organizer Thirumurugan, Sibi Sundar of Viduthalai Chirutaigal, South Chennai District Secretary of Popular Front of India Junaith Ansari, Advocate Durai of Dravidar Kazhagam and Raghavaraj of PUCL participated in the protest.

The protest speech was given by Ameer Hamza, State Secretary of SDPI. He mentioned that ‘The venomous speech by the leaders of Bharatiya Janatha Party, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Hindu Munnani is the main reason for the communal riots and clashes in the State. In the same tune, H.Raja of BJP has sowed the seeds of hatred to secure the votes in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The speech of Raja against the minorities, especially the Christians, is enough to create communal unrest.

Raja has also spoken against the Dravidian leader Periyar who was the main force in bringing a change in the social justice. We highly condemn the police for not taking action against Raja, so far. The police should arrest Raja under Goondas Act and take appropriate action against him. Failing which, SDPI will go for a State wide protest’.

Around 500 people participated in this protest and demanded action against the BJP leader.
