Yogi’s ‘Love Jihad remarks’ attempt at fomenting hatred and division for vote bank politics: Popular Front

New Delhi: A resolution passed by the National Executive Council meeting of Popular Front of India condemned Yogi Aditynath’s threat in the name of ‘Love Jihad’.

The Love Jihad remarks made by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adithyanath against those he claims are waging ‘Love Jihad’ was an attempt at fomenting hatred and division in the society for vote bank politics. Such remarks are aimed to create more fear in the minds of Muslim as they are wrongly accused by Sangh Pariwar of ‘Love Jihad’. It had been established through several central and state investigation agencies beyond any doubt that ‘Love Jihad’ is nothing but an Islamophobic conspiracy theory cooked up by right wing groups to insult and ostracise Muslim community. However the BJP still use this propaganda every now and then and even making death threats about it. This is disgustingly low level for a Chief Minister to stoop to. What they are actually targeting is the liberty of the citizens guaranteed by the constitution to profess, practise and propagate any religion of their choice.

Reservation for EWS harming the quota of backward classes:

In another resolution, the meeting remarked that the implementation of 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) is seriously damaging the existing quota for the backward classes. Data of Kerala government Plus Two seat allocation and seat allocation for NEET candidates show that EWS reservation is eating into the quota of OBCs, SCs and STs. A recent recruitment notification issued by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) maintained 50% cap on reservation and reduced quota for backward classes to accommodate the 10% for the EWS. The idea of introducing economic category to reservation had been staunchly opposed by the backward communities. They had pointed out that reservation is not a mean for poverty alleviation but for ensuring the representation of all sections in education and bureaucracy. However, the proponents of economic reservation argued that the reservation for EWS won’t in anyway affect the present quota reserved for the backward classes and their representation. The way 10% quota for the EWS is being implemented now is proving that their apprehensions right. The true objective, the adequate representation of the backward classes, has been successfully subverted. Backward classes should unite and come forward against this betrayal and demand for an alternative to ensure their representation.

Defeat communal politics in Bihar:

In another resolution, the NEC of Popular Front appealed to the people of Bihar to defeat fascist forces in the upcoming assembly elections in the state.

People of Bihar have always kept communal forces at bay and Hindutva fascism is only able to succeed in Bihar because of the betrayal of trust by some opportunist politicians. The present government has nothing to offer for people but their communal politics. Time has come for people to settle their score in order to defeat these forces of hatred and divisiveness. Popular Front appeals to the people of Bihar to unite and defeat fascism.
