Attempts to crush students protest will not succeed: Popular Front

Popular Front of India Vice Chairman O M A Salam cautioned the government that attempts to crush student agitations for protection citizenship right by using police force will not succeed as they carry the aspirations of the country and its people. He strongly condemned the police brutalities on agitating students in Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University yesterday night.

The police forcefully entered the JMI campus at night without seeking permission of university authorities and assaulted students including girls and chased them in library, mosque and hostels. There are visuals that show that police was deliberately firing on students. A video clipping that shows police set to burn a vehicle also is in circulation. The circumstances sufficiently points to the possibilities of hostile elements including those in police have played foul to instigate violence in order to put the blame on students. O M A Salam demanded an impartial judicial probe about the role of police in JMI incident.

Many students of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) were injured in police action during the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act at the University gate. The police entered the campus and used batons and tear gas against protesting students. They were raising slogans and the police acted deliberately and without reason.

Thousands of students irrespective of religious and ideological affiliations by raising their voices for democratic and constitutional rights are
adding links to the great tradition of student activism characteristic of our freedom struggle. He warned the fascist forces and their government that it is better late than never to learn lessons from history. O M A Salam expressed solidarity with students who are agitating on campuses and on streets in various universities in the country.
