Rebuild Babri Masjid: Popular Front demands to fulfill the promise

In a statement released on the eve of the 24th anniversary of the demolition of the historic Babri Masjid by Hindutwa forces, Popular Front Chairman K M Shareef demanded rebuilding Babri Masjid at its actual site as was promised by the government to the nation immediately after the demolition. The attack had left a permanent blemish on the face secular democratic face of India. Babri Masjid demolition was a deliberate attempt by Sangh Parivar. The demolition would not have been possible without the support of the Congress party which was in power at the time.
Immediately after the demolition, while the government promised to rebuild the Masjid on the same site, all secular parties and the mainstream media support the cause. But the later years saw a betrayal not only of the rulers but of all these circles from providing justice to the aggrieved Muslim community of India. Under the present BJP government, we witness the Hindutwa forces strengthening their communal campaigning and preparations for building a permanent temple in the site of the demolished Masjid. In view of the forthcoming elections in U. P. and some other states, BJP and other Sangh Parivar elements are trying to bring the issue of Ram Mandir construction to the forefront.
K M Shareef sought the intervention of the Election Commission to prevent the plying of communal card in the name of Ram Mandir construct in the coming state elections. He also called upon the Muslim community and all the genuine secular section not to forget Babri Masjid and stand firm on the demand for its reconstruction on the same site.
