Protests and demonstrations against police atrocities committed on Popular Front Day

The police unleashed violence and restored to lathicharge and teargas in the Unity March that was held at Ramanathapuram on February 17. The police cited flimsy reasons and created problems in the program that was organized with due police permission. Around fifty people were injured and nearly twenty were seriously injured. The police later arrested 19 people. However bail was granted to the arrested and the court has advised the Director General of Police to conduct an inquiry by an IG rank officer.
Meanwhile, Popular Front of India is conducting various protest demonstrations and public programs to highlight the police atrocities and to demand action against the police officers who were responsible for the untoward incidents. Immediately after the incident, demonstrations were held in most of the districts.
A grand pubic program was organized at Coimbatore on March 2. Popular Front of India’s National Executive Counil member Advocate Mohamed Yousuff, State President A.S.Ismail, human rights activist Prof. Marx, SDPI State Vice President Rafeeq Ahamed and Dravidar Kazhagam General Secretary RamaKrishnan delivered the speeches highlighting the high-handedness of the police.
A massive protest demonstration was held at Madurai on March 4. The demonstration was presided by Popular Front’s State General Secretary Khalid Mohamed. Slogans were raised against the police atrocities and demanding action the concerned officials. Popular Front National Chairman K.M.Sharief, State President A.S.Ismail, SDPI State General Secretary B.S. Abdul Hameed, Viduthalai Chirutaigal State Deptuy General Secretary Kani Amudan, Madurai Bar Council president Advocate Peter Ramesh and Indian Tawheed Jamath Vice president Mohamed Muneer participated in the demonstration and registered their protests. Around 5000 people participated in this demonstration.
A protest demonstration was held at the State capital Chennai on March 11. Popular Front of India’s State President A.S. Ismail, SDPI State Secretary G. Abdul Sathar, Indian Tawheed Jamath Vice President Mohamed Muneer, Sivakami IAS, PUCL Chennai Secretary T.S.S. Mani, IUML General Secretary Fathima Muzaffar, human rights activist Prof. Marx, Confederation of Muslim movement’s organizer Mohamed Haneefa participated in this demonstration. Hundreds of people participated in this demonstration and voiced their protest.
The protests and legal fights have given fruitful results and a few police officers were also transferred.
