New Delhi: Popular Front of India Chairman O M A Salam has, in a statement, urged all state governments, parties, and sections of people who have taken a stand against CAA, NRC, and NPR to be vigilant against the central government move to conduct NPR along with the census.
Reports are coming out that the Registrar General of India (RGI) is preparing to conduct field trials of the controversial National Population Register (NPR) along with the census using an app. People did not want their fellow citizens to be deprived of their citizenship rights on account of their religion. That is why they took to the streets one year back against the anti-constitutional Citizenship Law and the process of NPR and NRC. Most non-BJP parties took a stand against it and several state governments passed resolutions against the law. Even though P.M. Modi publicly announced that the government has no plan for nationwide NRC, the move for NPR shows that his words cannot be trusted. While BJP claims that NPR is not linked to NRC, the truth is National Population Register constitutes the major step towards nationwide NRC as it is the data collected through NPR that will go into the making of NRC.
Popular Front appeals to all who fought against CAA-NRC-NPR one year back to oppose these anti-people initiatives through all democratic means. Popular Front also urges parties and state governments who supported the struggle and took a stand against the CAA to stand by their commitment and voice against the move for NPR.
