Kozhikode: The annual award instituted by National Confederation of Human Rights Organizations in memory of Mukundan C Menon, the veteran journalist and human rights activist will go the Delhi- based Jamia Teachers’ Solidarity Association (JTSA).
The jury said that JTSA has brought to nation’s attention the sad plight of hundreds of people jailed on cooked up charges in different parts of the country. JTSA was singularly responsible in exposing the fake encounter killing in Batla House,New Delhi.
The association has also highlighted the bias and prejudice shown by the authorities in putting innocent people behind bars alleging that they belonged to outlawed organizations.
The award consists of a cash prize of Rs 25000/= a plaque and a citation. It will be awarded to JTSA in January in New Delhi. The members of the jury were Dr J Devika (CDS,Thiruvanathapuram), N P Chekkutty(Editor Thejas Daily Calicut), Prof R Ramesh(Bangalore) Prof N Babayya ( Bangalore) and Prof A Marx(Chennai).
