NWF criticizes re-arrest of Irom Sharmila

The re-arrest of Irom Sharmila, after the release order from the Imphal Sessions Court on Tuesday was condemned by the NWF national secretariat members who gathered a meeting in their head quarters on Saturday.

General secretary of the organization Fareeda Hassan said, “She has been fasting since 2000 demanding the withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act(AFSPA) imposed in Manipur. The court had rejected the charges registered under Section 309 of the Indian Penal Code (suicide attempt), and ordered her release.”

She said, “the committee also opined that the act of forcibly taking her into custody again by police after her release by the court is unjustifiable and not suitable for the country.”
