Implement the NCBC recommendation to raise creamy layer criterion: Popular Front

NEW DELHI: Popular Front general secretary Mohamed Ali Jinnah has demanded to implement the recommendation of the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) to the Centre to raise the ‘creamy layer’ criterion for OBCs from the present annual salary of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10.50 lakh. He also welcomed the NCBC’s suggestion to relax the qualifying standards for OBCs to make sure their adequate representations in Central jobs which still remain far from the target.
Despite commissions after commissions showed the social inequalities and the pathetic socio economic conditions of backward classes in our country, little have been practically achieved in this regard.
While Popular Front by principle disagrees with the idea of “creamy layer” which subdivides the backward classes on the basis of their income, we hope that the current recommendation, if accepted, would be a forward step in the path of achieving the social equality.
