Police action will disturb peace: Nasaruddeen Elamaram

Friday, February 17th, 2012
Thiruvananthapuram: Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) Kerala state president Nasaruddeen Elamaram warned the government that it the police were given free hand to do anything it would disturb the peace in the state. He was inaugurating the black march to Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's office organised by SDPI demanding the revocation of sedition charges slapped against its activists who waved black flags to CM at Kozhilkode.
It is unheard of in the history to charge people who expressed their protests of sedition and put them behind bars. Nasaraddeen also accused that the Kozhikode incident is the continuation of their communal attitude followed by the state police for a couple of years.
After Jacob Punnoose was appointed DGP by last left front government, a sudden change in the mindset of the police has been felt; especially in the issues Muslims are involved. Even after new government came to power, nothing changed in this respect. He also accused that DGP had his own agenda behind these issues. Chief Minister is reluctant to change the DGP due to latter's closeness to P K Kunhalikkutty.
Police are behaving with some kind of racial discrimination against Muslims in the state. The e-mail hacking incident, Beemappally and Kasarkode firings and love jihad incident are all proof for this communal mindset of the police. He accused the CM of protecting criminals in the force.
State leaders like M K Manoj Kumar, P Abdul Majeed Faizee, Thulaseedharan Pallikkal. Karamana Ahraf Moulavi, Sam kutty Jacob, C G Unni and K G Soman also addressed the march.
