Cyber surveillance over Muslims: NCHRO flays action against whistle blower

Friday, February 10th, 2012
Kozhikode: National Confederation of Homan Rights Organisations Kerala chapter protested the action taken against Hi-tech Cell sub inspector Biju Saleem regarding e mail hacking raw.
Kerala government had suspended him from the job and initiated enquiry against him. State cabinet also had decided to take case against him as per Official Secrets Act.
NCHRO Kerala chapter president Kunnathur Radhakrishnan and general secretary C A Haris flayed the move to throttle the whistle blower.
They argued that the revengeful actions taken by the government against Biju Saleem is nothing but gross violation of human rights values. It is the cyber surveillance against Muslims that is illegal and amounts to denial of constitutional rights of citizens. Instead of taking action against higher police official who ordered to spy over 268 emails including that of Muslim political leaders and journalists, government is trying to silence the whistle blower.
NCHRO also accused the move as against national interest because the central government is trying to moot an act meant to protect the whistle blower officials who are working to wipe out corruption, discrimination, state terrorism etc.
As government says, to leak documents for public good is not against the law of the land. And it should be noted that the US administration’s move to take case against whistle blower army man who leaked the official documents regarding human rights abuses in Iraq and Afghanistan to WikiLeaks had drawn widespread protests.
NCHRO leaders also demanded the state government to stop vilification campaign and stop criminal proceedings against the police officer.
