New Delhi:
The secretariat meeting of the Popular Front of India strongly condemns the decision of the Congress –led UPA Government to go ahead with the Indo-US nuclear deal and hails the decision of the left parties to withdraw support to the Government. Many neutral observers and energy and security experts have categorically opposed the nuclear deal as detrimental to the country’s sovereignty and independent foreign policy. The deal indirectly tries to make India a party to the imperialist designs of the US and its machinations to establish its hegemony over other nations. There is no evidence that this deal will help India meet its energy needs. Moreover it puts onerous restrictions on our nuclear plans. The country is forced to become an unwitting member of US strategic coalitions. It is not accidental that even before the ratification of the deal we were forced to vote against Iran in the IAEA meeting. The secretariat calls up on the UPA regime not to precipitate things, but to reject the deal as against the country’s interests.
