New Delhi: Inaugurating the Unity March held at Uduppi Popular Front Chairman K M Sharif asked all the patriotic Indians to join Popular Front’s struggle for social justice and equality. The day is being celebrated all over India by Popular Front members to celebrate 8th anniversary of its formation in 2006 on the same day. Sharif said that Popular Front was formed at a time when communalism tried to hijack Indian Democratic system and posed existential threat to country ‘minorities. Even after 50 years of independence we failed to eliminate poverty and social injustice.

As part of the celebrations in Tamil nadu, State president Mohamed Ismail hoisted the flag at the State headquarters today morning. He also delivered the speech after the flag hoisting. Cadres of Popular Front of India and public were present in large numbers.
A press meet was arranged by Popular Front of India on February 11 at the Chennai Press Club, on account of Popular Front Day. State President Mohamed Ismail addressed the press. The Popular Front Day is to be celebrated on the 17th of February. Flag hoisting, welfare schemes, medical camps, public meetings, rallies were conducted in the past three years and awareness was created among the masses about their rights.
The police unleashed violence and restored to lathicharge and teargas in the Unity March that was held at Ramanathapuram on February 17. The police cited flimsy reasons and created problems in the program that was organized with due police permission. Around fifty people were injured and nearly twenty were seriously injured. The police later arrested 19 people. However bail was granted to the arrested and the court has advised the Director General of Police to conduct an inquiry by an IG rank officer.
